San Francisco, CA, July 22, 2013 – Today CollegeSpring and Groupon Grassroots, the philanthropic arm of Groupon, announce the launch of a local campaign to raise funds for CollegeSpring’s 2013-2014 academic-year program mentor sessions.
The CollegeSpring’s Back-to-School Groupon Grassroots Campaign will be available on the San Francisco Groupon Grassroots page beginning on July 25, 2013 and running through July 31, 2013. Utilizing Groupon Grassroots’ collective action model, Groupon subscribers can pledge support for CollegeSpring’s Back-to-School Groupon Grassroots Campaign initiative in increments of $10, with each $10 providing an hour of mentoring for 3-5 CollegeSpring students.
Each $10 donation received will provide an hour of mentoring that includes SAT preparation, college readiness instruction, and financial aid awareness from a near-peer undergraduate mentor.
“We’re excited to leverage the collective action model of Groupon Grassroots to raise support for CollegeSpring’s Back-to-School Groupon Grassroots Campaign,” said Garrett Neiman, CollegeSpring Co-founder and CEO, “We look forward to creating new awareness for CollegeSpring as one of the local organizations in San Francisco to be featured on Groupon Grassroots.”
One hundred percent of the Groupon Grassroots campaign proceeds will be used to provide mentors for CollegeSpring’s academic-year 2013-2014 students.
CollegeSpring has served 4,400 high school students from low-income backgrounds in the Bay Area and Los Angeles since 2008 and expects to reach an additional 7,600 by 2015. Students participating in CollegeSpring’s academic-year or summer programs see an average SAT score boost of 180 points, which for many students can make a difference in whether or not they attend four-year colleges or universities. CollegeSpring’s emphasis on near-peer mentorship and a knowledge-based curriculum help make college admission and completion more accessible.
Founded in 2008, CollegeSpring is the largest SAT preparation program explicitly designed to meet the needs of high school students from low-income backgrounds and first-generation college-bound students. It was founded on the belief that test preparation and college-readiness instruction should work together as an effective springboard to college. CollegeSpring’s program includes small-group mentoring with current undergraduates as well as instruction by professional teachers so that students receive the personal and academic support they need to succeed.
