CollegeSpring’s vision statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI):

We envision a world where every individual has the opportunity to grow and be respected as a student, professional, and person, regardless of their culture, background, or creed. We help students to use education as a tool to narrow opportunity gaps, unleashing the liberty and self-determination that comes with a college degree. Additionally, we strive to illuminate and combat institutionalized oppressions by improving our hiring and training practices, seeking out similar approaches for partner/board recruitment, and advocating diversity, equity, and inclusion inside and outside of our organization.

DEI in our programs

Our program is targeted to students who are underrepresented in higher education, but we acknowledge that there are many facets of diversity within that broad group. We strive to continuously improve our curriculum to make it better support various learning styles and academic strengths. We also train our instructors and mentors on cross-cultural communication and working with students from diverse backgrounds.

DEI in our organization

We believe that our whole team shares responsibility for making our practices reflect our commitment to social justice, and strive to make that shared responsibility a reality. Ongoing projects include diversifying our hiring, tracking inclusion and equity metrics in staff surveys, and training staff about social justice and various facets of diversity. Team members at every level may focus on this work by joining our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Steering Committee.
