In 2012 we launched our first academic-year programs, nearly tripled the number of students we serve annually, and raised over $1.3 in revenue. COLLEGESPRING AND TEACH FOR AMERICA PARTNER TO MAKE POTENTIAL POSSIBLE
Partnership to Improve College Readiness for Students from Low-Income Backgrounds, Opportunities for College Graduates

SAN FRANCISCO, March 18, 2013 — CollegeSpring and Teach For America are proud to announce a newly formed partnership to improve college access opportunities for high school students from low-income backgrounds. Combined, the impact of these two service-minded organizations will help level the playing field of college achievement for students from low-income backgrounds, many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college.

College students gain valuable lesson planning and instructional skills during their time serving as mentors in CollegeSpring’s innovative SAT and college preparation programs; mentors who choose to pursue careers in education will be able to transfer their skills smoothly from tutoring to teaching in the classroom after graduation. By amplifying awareness of the opportunity to apply to Teach For America’s teaching corps, CollegeSpring seeks to inspire its mentors to pursue full-time teaching opportunities with Teach For America.

CollegeSpring is committed to providing high school students with the tools they need to boost SAT scores, navigate the college admissions and financial aid processes, and confidently pursue college degrees. The largest nonprofit of its kind in California, CollegeSpring operates in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles, offering a unique SAT prep curriculum specifically designed to help students from low-income backgrounds and first-generation college-bound students achieve scores that reflect their potential. CollegeSpring employs current college students–who serve as powerful near-peer role models–to tutor high school juniors on the SAT and guide them through the college admissions and financial aid processes.

Teach For America works in partnership with communities to expand educational opportunity for children facing the challenges of poverty. Founded in 1990, Teach For America recruits and develops a diverse corps of outstanding individuals of all academic disciplines to commit two years to teach in high-need schools and become lifelong leaders in the movement to end educational inequity. CollegeSpring’s programs staff includes a number of Teach for America alumni, and the missions of the two organizations overlap in many important ways. Both organizations look forward to working in tandem to make college possible for all high school students, especially for those from low-income backgrounds.

Our Programs Managers each oversee a portfolio of academic year and summer program sites. They are our primary contacts with our school partners and are responsible for making sure all elements of the program are being executed to a high level of quality. Programs Managers recruit, hire, train, and manage all of our site-based staff, including professional teachers and undergraduates.

The Los Angeles Programs Manager will join our current Senior Programs Manager, Programs Manager, and Programs Associate on the Los Angeles Programs Team. As part of a dynamic and quickly scaling non-profit organization, this individual will have the opportunity to help chart the course of our organization.

As a CollegeSpring Mentor, you will partner with rising seniors from low-income backgrounds, many of whom will be the first in their families to go to college, as they approach one of the most crucial turning-points in their lives: the college admissions process. Each CollegeSpring mentor tutors small groups of 3 to 5 students, helping students solidify the core academic skills tested on the SAT. As a CollegeSpring Mentor you will also be a strong role model for students, providing a source of first-hand knowledge about college and the admissions process and challenging students to envision new possibilities for their futures.
