The Citizen Schools National Teaching Fellowship is a pathway opportunity for CollegeSpring alumni that allows one to perform an extraordinary act of citizenship and help the nation to address one of its greatest challenges; educating our youth in ways that promotes self-belief, college readiness and the skills needed to achieve their dreams.
City Year is an education-focused nonprofit organization that partners with public schools to help keep students in school and on track to graduate. City Year AmeriCorps members commit to a year of full-time service in schools, where they work as tutors, mentors and role models. Founded in Boston in 1988, City Year works in 25 cities across the United States and has international affiliates in London & Birmingham, England and Johannesburg, South Africa.
CollegeSpring is a proud member of City Year’s Career Partnership program so our alumni can continue to make a difference in the lives of students. This partnership reflects the shared visions and values of both organizations, and their belief that young people can keep students on track to graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. Students Rising Above
Students Rising Above is a comprehensive year-round program that provides college readiness support, tutoring, one-on-one mentoring, paid summer internships, career coaching and job training workshops, access to health care services, and financial assistance. SRA students are typically the first in their families to go to college and lack the financial resources and family support to fulfill their educational dreams. They are selected during their junior year of high school and work with a professional SRA Advisor and a volunteer adult mentor for five-plus years from high school, through college, and into the workforce. SRA’s students graduate college at a rate of 90% and within 12 months of graduation, more than 80% of alumni are either in career-ladder jobs or enrolled in graduate school.
In order to offer meaningful internship opportunities for its diverse, highly motivated college students, SRA forms mutually beneficial partnerships with a variety of employers. CollegeSpring has proven to be an ideal partner, providing rewarding mentoring positions that allow SRA students to be role models for younger students from similar backgrounds while building their own professional skills.
Teach For America
Teach For America works in partnership with communities to expand educational opportunity for children facing the challenges of poverty. Founded in 1990, Teach For America recruits and develops a diverse corps of outstanding individuals of all academic disciplines to commit two years to teach in high-need schools and become lifelong leaders in the movement to end educational inequity. Today, more than 10,000 corps members are teaching in 46 urban and rural regions across the country, while nearly 28,000 alumni work across sectors to ensure that all children have access to an excellent education.
CollegeSpring mentors gain experience coaching students through difficult concepts and planning lessons in math, reading, and writing, while also serving as important college role models and mentors; these skills provide an excellent foundation for applying to be a Teach For America Corps Member.
