Manager of Instructional Design (REMOTE)


CollegeSpring is a nonprofit organization that equips schools and teachers with the tools to help students confidently prepare for the SAT, TSIA2 and ACT. These tests are a critical part of college admissions, and every student deserves a chance to prepare. Yet test prep courses and private tutoring are often costly or hard to access. Our programs reduce this inequity by bringing high quality test preparation into schools. We build Test Confidence™ by training, supporting, and providing ongoing coaching to teachers at our partner schools to deliver the CollegeSpring curriculum to their students. Since 2008, CollegeSpring has helped provide school-day test prep to over 40,000 students across the country and we have an ambitious goal to serve 62,000 more from FY23-FY25.  


This role is a member of the instructional design team responsible for product development, quality assurance, design of user experience, and building organizational expertise in all CS products and tests.  The Manager of Instructional Design is responsible for participating in all aspects of instructional design and will also support tracking the team’s progress to the larger project plan, identifying risks and finding solutions to address them, working collaboratively across functions to inform the product roadmap, and managing external contractors for product development efforts.

CollegeSpring Course Design

  • Develop scope and sequence for all products using research, best practices, and engaging in product development focus groups
  • Create and manage a plan for assigned areas of content development including writing original content and/or managing contractractors to complete it in accordance with established timeline and quality standards 
  • Oversees content and testing development contractors to ensure deliverables are being met on time, on budget, and in alignment with our program quality standards. Responsible for keeping a steady pipeline of content contractors engaged, working across the instructional design team to understand resource needs and secure contractors to support during sprints, and drafting scope of work and deadlines for the contractors that meet the overarching project plan.
  • Manage testing and reporting for each product including end-to-end design, organizational training, handoff to Partner Success Team (PST), and soliciting ongoing feedback to inform the product roadmap
  • Conduct market research to inform product design, including website research, meeting with schools and other organizations to gather insights, conducting focus groups, and solicit feedback from cross functional teams 
  • Support the design team by keeping abreast of technology innovations, education and industry trends, instructional design research and pedagogy, and regulations that impact our products.
  • Design pilot programs for new product launches that will enable us to test all aspects of program design and implementation


Manage Quality Assurance (QA) Process

  • Manage the overarching quality assurance process for all content including establishing/refining clear guiding principles and steps to follow, creating a timeline and identifying key roles and resources to maximize effectiveness, and managing against the overarching timeline
  • Responsible for reviewing all content both before it’s loaded into the learning management system and after to ensure that it meets our quality standards and is functioning as intended
  • Solicit feedback from sales and implementation teams about our program quality and leverage these insights to inform design and QA processes
  • Hires and manage proofreaders/copy editors to support QA function



  • Design of the Teacher Experience for all products, which includes developing initial teacher training content for the CollegeSpring connect platform, setting learning goals and objectives for initial teacher training, and leading hand off of content to Partnership Success Team
  • Leads and collaborates with Program and Impact team to create high-quality training for diverse internal stakeholder groups so that each stakeholder understands their role in all new products and program design, specifically focused on course design, curriculum, test specifications, and coaching. 


Project Management Support and Coordination

  • Liaison to Technical Product Team/Systems Administrators to ensure that  all content build and migration work  is happening on time
  • Monitors progress of content development, testing, reporting, and training timelines for instructional design team, identifies any barriers, shares progress, and partners closely with Senior Director, Instructional Design and Technical Product Manager to achieve established goals.

Qualifications and Skills 


  • You have 5+ years experience as an instructional designer or curriculum developer
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Prefer Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Curriculum Design, Learning Design, or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Experience with developing and/or delivering SAT/ACT preparation and college readiness curricula strongly preferred.
  • Experience training or coaching adult learners.
  • Experience working in an educational environment serving BIPOC or first generation students.
  • Comfortable working in a flexible, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and creating digital learning content that aligns to IMS Global Standards through HTML, CSS, Scorm, and other digital learning software.
  • Experience working in multiple LMSs and ability to learn new applications.



  • This role is remote within the United States; travel up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to lift/ carry/ transport educational or promotional materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
