CollegeSpring mentors are dedicated undergraduates who help high school students prepare for the SAT or ACT and college admissions.
Working throughout the spring semester at high schools in Southern California, New York, and the Bay Area, mentors help small groups of 11th-grade students prepare for the SAT and ACT. These mentoring relationships help students gain self-confidence and motivation from working with a near-peer who is attending college. They also see students boost their SAT or ACT score–a big benefit in an inequitable college admissions system.
Mentors gain hands-on teaching experience, participate in robust training and professional development, and have the opportunity to support students from populations that are underrepresented in higher education.

Yes, we pay mentors for both instructional time and lesson preparation. Mentors typically work from January to May for 2-4 hours per week, plus two hours per week of preparation
CollegeSpring students typically come from one or more populations that are historically underrepresented in higher education. Many would be the first in their family to attend college.
No–we train mentors on the SAT and teaching strategies, and provide lesson plans for the whole semester.

Mentors receive training from CollegeSpring staff on small-group instruction, lesson planning, cross-cultural communication, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom. Mentors can also participate in career exploration events with local businesses.
Mentors are responsible for transportation to school sites. Many mentors are able to arrange carpools with others in their cohort.
